Ok, my boy dropped me a couple thousand CCI quiet for my suppressed 10/22 and Mark 4 ruger pistol

Well it won’t cycle with the suppressor on, then I took off the suppressor it won’t even cycle without it on

So what’s the best subsonic .22 cal rimfire ammo to use to get these guns cycling?

What else may I have to do???

    Any help is appreciated

CCI quiets are relegated to my suppressed bolt gun. Aguilla subs and Remington subs cycle my suppressed 22/45. They do not cycle unsuppressed. Can’t comment on the 10/22.

CCi Quiet is a very low velocity round primarily intended for close range it has a muzzle velocity of only 710 FPS and energy of 45 Ft Lbs, intended to give suppressed like sound levels from regular rifles (79 DB at the ear). They typically won't cycle semi autos, best in bolt guns.

Most standard velocity .22 is sub sonic. The speed of sound is 1125 FPS, varies with temperature, altitude, etc. so look at the published ballistics for the ammo. Generally speaking .22 ammo that says Target or Match does not exceed the speed of sound, to be even more sure look for the word Subsonic on the box. They do make special ammo for suppressed such as CCI 45 -Grain Suppressor, or Aguila 60-Grain SSS Sniper Subsonic.

A good reference is Ammo & Ballistics 6:

    Where they send me.
The Quiets are meant for things without a can on them. Hearing safe without a can so no need for one. Good for bolt action rifles. I have a Mk II that they run in fine but it is well worn in.

If you do opt to run the Quiets through a can I would not run the pre-segmented ones in the off chance they spin apart in the can. Rare, but given the price of .22 now I would buy other options.

Several makes out there CCI makes good stuff but I find Rem is quieter for me. Winchester also makes some in 45gr which is a bit more punch as does American Eagle. Also, as noted most target .22 is subsonic.

Happy to report that my suppressed 22/45 MK-IV Lite cycles perfectly with Winchester “M-22 Subsonic” in 45gr, copper plated round nose. Delightfully quiet with my Rugged Occulus, and 200 rounds the other day with zero failures to load, fire, or eject.

I stick with the standard velocity stuff also in my 10/22. I have a KIDD build that cycles "subsonic" loads like Eley and Remington fine but, I have the lighter recoil spring in. You can tune it a bit. Dropping the spring down to cycle quiets will leave you dedicated to that round though. The bolt will be traveling to quickly for standard and higher. I mainly shoot SV round nose CCI or Eley Sub Hollow.

All these different suggestions sounds like a perfect excuse to run to greentop, lol

Those cci quiets thru the 10/22 with the can , even though it didn’t cycle are silent, all you here is the firing pin and the action trying to work

I have an inexpensive can but I can tell I like this too much

I have an obsidian 45 in jail and I will be getting a .30 can and another rimfire can as soon as I get better

Thanks for the suggestions and please keep the info coming!!

Gemtech in the orange box works awesome! It's made by cci has a 42 grain bullet, and was designed to function in all semi .22 best sub sonic I have used.

Gemtec is the most consistent sub sonic that I have used. Next to that, believe it or not, is Aquilla Super Extra sub sonic in the yellow box. I don't like any of the Winchesters, too inconsistant.

My stock 10/22 cycled Remington and gemtech subsonics while suppressed. The gemtech subsonics were just rebranded CCI ammo. My 10/22 now does cycle CCI quiets even with a suppressor thanks to a Volquartsen Firefly Bolt. They say to only shoot subs under 1000 fps using that bolt but I dedicate the CCI quiets when using that bolt. It still won't cycle Aguila Super Colibri though

Shooting CCI Quiets in a semi takes away from the whole reason they are made which is so you can shoot them without too much noise. In a semi, the bolt opening causes it to be noisier. In a 24 inch bolt gun, they are quieter than my pump air rifle.

For the pistol you can run just about any .22 ammo. With the short barrel it should not get up to supersonic speeds. I have run mini mags through my m&p 22c plenty of times.
I could look through the ammo box and give you a few different sub sonic .22 rounds to try out from several brands. That way you can try before you buy :)

I did run mini mags thru both guns and the crack was really noticeable especially in the pistol

I am going to get several subsonic brands and see how I make out

    NEXT QUESTION

I looked around in the safe and dug out a walther that had a threaded barrel BUT the threads on the can apparently are a lot bigger than the threads on the pistol

Is there an adapter for this?

Yep, I am new at this and feel as dumb as a box of rocks
