I’m not thinking there is any difference in these for reloading purposes, they have the same height basewad. I’m thinking it was the factory powder loading difference.

I believe HS is “high strength”. The hull construction should be the same. I’ve loaded various types of AA hulls with good results. Pretty sure it is factory powder charge

HS is for “High Strength”. These are the new AAs produced by Winchester. Used to be a one piece mold, now two piece.

I got 8-10 reloads out of HS hulls, so still a great hull. Some believe the non HS hulls are better. Meh. Only difference between heavy and light is the factory load. Just make sure you pick up a wad for HS and not the older hulls.

The heavy load vs light load is how the shell is loaded. They can load it up for light 1150 feet per sec or heavy up to 1350 feet per sec. It depends what you want to do with the load. You can't get around physics so light loads will have light recoil and heavy loads, well, I think you get it.

The HS is the Winchester code for the latest version of the AA shell that they make. The only one they have modified since they started the HS series is the 28ga as the earlier ones were too short. This screws you up when reloading mixed cases.

I wouldn't worry about mixing 12ga HS hulls as they are all the same.

I’m using the WAA12 wads, well the clay busters replacements, with good results.
I had to go back to the bench for some test loads as I had to chance to Federal 209A primers, and the recipes for them is a little different than the Winchester 209’s.

    Can’t argue with results!

I am out of the reloading game now, but only reloaded AA 28ga and 410ga. Claybuster made a 28ga original AA and a AAHS wad. I believe it just had a slight taper to seat a little better. Also had good results with Winchester 209s. Found a load I liked and stuck with it haha.

    Enjoy your time reloading!

I like the Winchester primers but I got a pretty good deal on the Federal primers, and they seem to take less powder for the same velocity (Hodgdon data) so I’ll give them a shot. No pun intended.:D

Sounds like you've found some much needed reloading bench time. :)
Hopefully we'll get to see you fire those at a Hooligan shoot real soon...;)

Since the DEP jerked all permits for the line we were working on I’ll have some time for a bit.
I’m planning on Sunday morning.

OP, hopefully there will be another care package heading your way in the next few months, courtesy of the MDS mail system. Please share the love in the package with the Hooligans for me.

Temps are supposed to be in the 30's & 40's on Sunday with maybe light drizzle. That's a helluva lot warmer than the past few weeks. :)

Much to catch up on. Hope you can make it!

Have both old style compression formed AA's and the new HS 2 piece hulls.
Got some packages of both coming, shipping kills you cause they are light
    and bulky.soo...
Anybody got any AA's to upload?
Just got back in shot shell Reloading have presses and a bunch of
components but not many hulls need a.change from metallic reloading..

Anyway here is a brief.video on understanding shotgun hulls
    on another forum.

I picked up 1,000 once fired AA’s off gunbroker for $30+$10 shipping about 2 weeks ago, I didn’t think that was too bad of a deal.
The two from above were from a few that I had already in my pile.

Yes sir, thank you, always try local first before venturing out.

Gotten a few from GB also

Stock piling for some serious reloading sessions, a breather from
    Metallic reloading..
