My employer is looking for a high junior/mid-range UNIX SA.

This individual will be working on a team of three (of which I am a member).

    Some tasks we do:
    • day to day operations (DNS changes, user privileges, tickets ,etc)
    • project oriented work (new systems, modifications to existing systems)
    • engineering work ups (for new technologies or upgraded existing technologies)
    • manage enterprise wide monitoring
    • participate in on call rotation
    • task automation

    Technology we play with:
    • CentOS
    • Oracle Enterprise Linux
    • CFEngine
    • apache
    • tomcat
    • mysql, postgres & mongoDB
    • Oracle
    • Check_MK & nagios

    Requirements:
    • Yearn to learn
    • Self managed
    • Plays well with others
    • good communication skills
    • reasonable problem solving skills
    • ability to complete tasks
    • know when to ask for help
    • ability to take direction
    • follow established working practices
    • ability to clear a SF-85P or similar background check
    • apache
    • SOLID UNIX SHELL KNOWLEDGE (we are a non GUI shop)

Amazingly enough, we DO NOT require a four year degree or certifications. Some of our best talent has neither. If you can tread the water, you can learn to swim with the sharks FWIW.

Also note, it is not required you speak CentOS and/or Linux. If you speak UNIX already, learning the specifics will be nothing. SAs of all flavors are highly encouraged to apply!

    Random:
    • play with new technologies
    • set standards and working practices
    • documentation
    • learn from/teach other team members
    • learn system tuning
    • learn about kernel internals
    • we promote from within
    • good career path/ladder climbing available within CORP
    • we offer benefits (401k, health, others)

    Highly desirable (but not required):
    • perl
    • nagios plugin deployments/construction
    • java
    • python
    • php
    • expect
    • selinux
    • tomcat

    Who are we?

We are an organization located in Silver Spring, MD (good MARC and Metro access) that deals with research in the health care field. We are involved in cardiac safety studies to post care evaluation and costing. We do work in the US and around the world. We do NOT work for the health care insurance industry.

If you or someone you know has an interest, PM me...

Is this with NIH? Not that I want a longer commute or move to Maryland.

    No.

While the employer has business with NIH, NIH is but one of many of our customers. Your location would be Silver Spring (or perhaps Durham, NC if you want to move ;)).

We do have flexible work hours and a certain amount of work from home in our benefits package.

I would NOT move to Amerika for this position. If you are in Loudon or Fairfax counties, crossing the Potomac and getting on MARC rail is a good bet. (especially with all the construction on Metro these days)

Stress free ride; I like to sleep myself.

Sure, it can be slower, but if the littlest thing happens on 270 or 495, you know the drill
