    Hello everyone,

I recently went to a gun range in Rockville MD (last time I shot was about 4 years go) and according to them it is now law? for you to have to purchase ammo from the hosting gun range? So I have all of this ammo that I love to shoot... but I'm not sure if there are any places in or near Montgomery Co. MD that will allow me to bring and shoot my own ammo.. any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!:D

Membership is 200. Then you can shoot all day. Every day.
Only drawback is handgun caliber only but works out for me since I don't have a gun collection yet.
Shooting in Rockville is like getting gas in rockville.
    You gonna pay!

Seriously man I appreciate the input... this was my first time ever shooting in Rockville.. and it cost me $80 to shoot 50 rounds! I had my own gun my own eyes and ears... $80 for 50 round box of FMJ 9mm and 2 body size targets.. ridiculous!

Hit me up. I'm an hour away but no range fee and nice and outdoors.

You have to be talking about Gilbert's. I joined and promptly unjoined when first time there they told me I had to empty my mags and could only shoot their ammo. BS !

Went up to Heritage in Frederick and joined because the facility was so nice, but it's expensive and you can't use a holster, shoot from the hip, or shoot anything that attracts a magnet even if not steel core. Wish I had known that before I joined. When my membership runs out I'll probably join Machine Gun Nest or just shoot as a guest there and at On Target. I'm in Wheaton so drive time is about the same.

And, as far as I know it's not a county thing to have to shoot their ammo but MoCo is so wacky it may well be

The only way Monkey Cnty would let them build the range their is if they sold ammo and people would have to use their ammo. The county did not people bring their own ammo to the range due to 'public safety" concerns about people having their guns and ammo in the same car in the area, no im not kidding about this..... plus if people brought reloads to shoot they could not control the type of ammo shot and or the grain load... That is how bad Monkey county has become... Its now the Socialist Republic of Monkey Cnty......

Statutes in Md are only the beginning for opening a range in Md . The real nitty gritty is in the negeoations for Zoning , usually requiring a Special Exception.

Look at it this way :

Gilberts is like Dogs playing Poker. The amazing thing is not that they do so badly, it is that they simply exist.

I thought you were discussing not being able to use your own ammo in their guns, but this is just obscene. I thought Hap Baker was bad for the Safety Nazis that work there, how can that be a successful business philosophy?!

Depending on where in Montgomery County you live, "near" is a relative term. On Target, Inc. in Severn, MD, is about 10 minutes from Arundel Mills Mall, on Rt. 175 about 1 mile east of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. On Target lets you bring your own ammo to use in your own gun. You only have to buy store ammo if you are using the store's range guns. It is primarily a pistol range, so most rifle calibers cannot be accommodated. Rifles that shoot common handgun calibers are fine, including .30 carbine. Good luck!
