I have always assumed that any firearm can only be transported between a firearm events (range, gunstore and home etc.) and the ammo must be separated. However recently it has come to my attention that it only applies to regulated firearms such as handguns and pre 2013 AR-15 etc. that are regulated. This would mean that post 2013 H-BAR AR-15 rifles are not regulated.

It also looks like I can keep ammo in the same case for non-regulated firearms so long as the weapon is unloaded.

Sometimes it would be nice to go straight from work to the range without having to swing home to grab the rifle or shotgun.

What are your thoughts on this?

HBAR transport is fine as long as your work is not in DC.

If you are parking the vehicle for long periods I recommend using a lock cable that runs to the seat strut.
