Thanks for the Mossberg 500 I got this weekend. Turns out it is a 500 AT which means it is a tactical model and has a slightly different take down than normal due to the anti-rattle features. Less than 24 hrs later I had the gun completely disassembled. The wood got wiped with murphy's oil soap. The internal action parts got the rust polished off with steel wool. The trigger assembly had the spider eggs cleaned out. The barrel and mag tube got a wire wheel taken to them and a coat of oil. I was going to do a cold blue on them but I kinda like the patina look. The inside of the barrel was even worse than the outside. I poured some ATF down the barrel and used a cleaning brush/rod hooked to a drill to clean and polish the inside. The barrel got shortened some. I just have to drill/tap the barrel for a fiber-optic front sight I had laying in my pats bin. I asked to be shown something that would be considered a truck gun and I'm really happy with what I got. The action is now smooth as butter.
