This was the assumption in the other thread, but I'm glad you posted first hand experience. I bet a number of officers were bothered that they couldn't do equal enforcement on both sides (with higher-ups putting them in this position through creation of a DMZ).As a cop who has had to work the civil disturbance detail before, I can promise you that 99% of arrests are ordered by the line commander... not the line officer.
This was a political decision, 100%. The line officer is following a lawful order of a superior and has no discretion. ...
