[...] the city is raising the monetary incentive to get illegal guns off the street.

While the District offers up to $2,500 for tips that lead to the recovery of illegal guns, the city is partnering with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to raise that reward to $7,500.
$7500 bucks, you say? Does that require an arrest?
D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said the tip needs only to lead to an arrest of a person possessing an illegal handgun, not necessarily a conviction, and that the tipster wouldn’t be required to testify in court.
    Oh, okay ...
Contee said that tips that lead to the recovery of any illegal weapons will still receive a partial reward.

maybe if they just put and kept action criminals in jail, they wouldn't have a "gun" problem...

yep let's blame everyone and everything EXCEPT for what/who is actually doing all the violence and crime. the bloods and crips would all be angels surely with no guns in circulation.

Sooooo someone could hypothetically red flag a group of people in the next neighborhood, get the police to confiscate that group's weapons, get a few $1000 in the process... and then go shoot them up the next week? Sounds like the beginning of the next season of The Wire.

I remember a past coworker, army veteran who served in Iraq. He said the us military had a gun buy back program in Iraq. They paid so much for a junk AK you could buy 2 new ones on the street.

FYI this entire announcement is poltical cover/damage control for DC having to roll back virtually all of their "Ghost gun" prohibitions. They passed a bunch of new definitions of ghost guns a year or two ago and just a few weeks had to roll them back as the result of court challenges.
