    Yet another political refugee in WV
    After 12 yrs of living in MD and applying since I was able.... I finally get in AFTER we moved to WV..... Looking for farms now. No figuring on record book bruins, just pop control and meat. Been a very very long time since bear meat has graced my grill...

    My first Bear I shot with a 30/06 Ruger M77 in the Adirondack Mountains of NY and my second was a Kodiak bear shot with a 45/70 in Kodiak. I have been trying for 30 years in MD but have never hit the lottery. I hate lotteries.

    What's a good way to prepare bear meat?

    Wish i knew how to post video. My son had a medium sized black bear walk up within 25 yards of he and my friend last Saturday. Bear knew something was there......just not what or where.

    Bear season is off to a slow start. It was 70 degrees and sunny yesterday and rainy with 40-50 mph wind gusts today.

    Anyone else out bear hunting this week?

    Maryland’s black bear lottery has only been going on since 2004, 17 years perhaps?

    DNR spot checked my buddy. DNR said opening day was one of the worst he can remember.

    "2021 Maryland Black Bear Hunt by the Numbers:

    54 black bears were harvested: 6 from Allegany County, 5 from Frederick County, 33 from Garrett County, and 10 from Washington County
    146 pounds is the average weight of bears harvested
    The heaviest bear weighed 362 pounds and was taken in Washington County
    63% of bears were taken on private land
    4,716 hunters applied for a permit
    950 permits were awarded"
