Agree w. everyone that the lack of a 3 day inspection period is a real concern, esp. when dealing with items routinely faked. I would pass.
I totally agree with Drmsparks, take the time and spend some coin for good reference works to acquire a basic level of knowledge on the subject. I recently spent about $100 for two good reference books on Swiss Lugers before taking the plunge and spending over $1000 for a nice, correct example. It allowed me to select and bid with a degree of confidence.
The net can be a great place to also find discussions on spotting faked or "humped" items. As previously mentioned, Hambone is one collector who has gotten very good at this and if I remember correctly Mausers are his primary focus of collecting.

I don't know much on the subject of Mauser sniper rifles but I'd check the reviews of Richard Law's Sniper Variations of the German K98k Rifle from Collector Grade books.
