    Can anyone enlighten me to the markings on the tang of this M39, It has bothered me for years, the barrel has

    I cannot for the life of me date the receiver though, and couldn't find anything on the "2" and the "1" that looks like it's been stamped on top of another hallmark.

    Maybe a silly question, but I keep looking and find nothing. I know some receivers have no date, but this at least has something.

    Looks like a Remington receiver (R within a circle overstamped by the 1). No idea what the 1 and 2 mean - probably inspection marks of some sort. Remington made rifles from 1915 to 1918 and did not date the receivers.
