The central theme of the movie Winchester is that people don't kill people....guns kill people. Small spoiler below:

It's a ghost movie, and in this movie, ghosts don't haunt the people that killed them, they go right after the gun manufacturer and haunt the family that designed the guns that were used in their murders/suicides/accidental shootings. Anyone who was killed by a Winchester rifle, regardless of how it happened, haunts the gun manufacturer. You will hear phrases like "they were all killed by the Winchester gun" and "we designed the gun too well, people didn't have a chance against the Winchester rifle" aplenty.

My advice, save your money and don't support this narrative of "people don't kill people, guns kill people"

If so, any good? AKA: Worth the time/money/putting up with addicted people on their brightly lit smartphones?

Had never heard of the movie, Winchester, until you posted about it. Kind of funny they would go after a gun brand that's mostly associated with older, non semiautomatic types of rifles. No modern sporting rifles or handguns in their current line. But lever actions, pump shotguns, rifles typically associated with hunting, etc, that's their current stock and trade.

Isn't that why Old Lady Winchester built all those rooms? To "house" the ghosts of the people killed by her husband's guns?

That was the Viewpoint/Fear of the widow Winchester - so it is accurate to her fear(s).

Her fears didn't stop her from accepting 50% interest in the Winchester company and the current equivalent of half a billion dollars from his estate. Liberals have been hypocrites forever.

If I remember correctly, the story as it was told by the guide during my visit, is that a "medium" convinced Mrs. Winchester after her son and husband had died, that she was being tortured by the souls of those killed by the Winchester rifle and the only way for her to avoid this was to move west and continually rearrange and add to the house to "confuse" the spirits. The house is amazing by the way.

I saw a thing on the History Channel years ago that said such was the case for the Winchester House and lady Winchester. TTAG posted the other day that the libs are all upset that the movie isn't anti gun enough. Apparently its a reoccurring thing in the movie of pro gun people telling the lady winchester that she's crazy and guns don't kill people, people do. Candidly, I'm not convinced it wont be anti gun, despite not being anti gun enough for the libs, but as far as the plot is concerned, it's not the first I heard of this tale. Also, wikipedia has that the old legend of the medium and her building the room for those reasons is just that, an urban myth. Apparently its unsubstantiated and came about after her death. So... I probably will see other movies, but I doubt it's nearly as bad as the over the top anti gun political bs that regularly comes out of hollywood, or the gun porn being made by the guys who are anti gun when they're not holding one for a film.

I saw Hostiles...it was OK at best imo.

Fyi, I bought a Moviepass (through Costco, but you can buy it directly from them) for $89 and you can see 1 2D movie per day for a year. Works great for me. I don't go every day, but I go plenty to make it worthwhile.

Ok, I didn't realize this was an accurate adaptation. With it being so over the top "ppl don't kill ppl, guns kill ppl" I assumed it was liberal Hollywood putting their liberal spin on things.

Move along ppl, nothing to see here. OP (me) didn't research it, just assumed.

    Thank you.

It looked too hyped up to be any good.

It was billed as the best western since.....Unforgiven.

If you are ever out in the San Jose / SF Bay area, it is worth an afternoon to go to the house. Really neat piece of history and a great example of what you can do when you have more dollars than sense :-)

Thought I had a better picture than this, but it is all that is on my phone.... actually a very impressive structure.

This I believe is the correct story. I'm sure the medium bilked her a bunch of cash during this multi-year episode.

They have an awesome collection of Winchester rifles at the visitor center at the house. Very interesting tour if you are in the area.

She was crazy and afraid that ghosts of people killed with Winchester brand weapons were seeking her out. But, and it's a big but, the trailer I watched was all made up so they could add spectacular affects and create a more exciting story. The sad part is that people will think it really happened that way.
I want to see it anyway just to be grumpy about it.
