All Virginia Gun Owners, Family and Friends -TAKE OFF WORK NOW for Jan 15, 2018 VCDL "Lobby Day"!
WHAT IS "VCDL LOBBY DAY"? This is the day when hundreds and hundreds of gun owners come to the temporary General Assembly building in Richmond ( 900 East Main Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219) to meet with the Virginia Legislature (our Senators and Delegates). We form small groups around 0830 just outside the building with our legislative agenda and how VCDL stands on bills (Support, Neutral, Don't support) and we ask our reps to VOTE on bills they way WE want them to vote. More information will be posted in JANUARY 2018 - This VIDEO from 2010 is a small example of what Lobby Day is all about: http://vimeo.com/34618841 - Take off work now and plan on coming! Bring a friend!

I'm going, should be there around 9:30. Post-up if you're planning to attend. :party29:

I'm going to take the bus from Fairfax to Richmond, but to be honest, I might have trouble making the 5:45 AM pickup time. Anyway, I'll still try to make it.

    Additional info

    LOCATION
The General Assembly is in the Pocahontas Building, which is at 10th and Main Streets (900 East Main Street). The Capitol grounds and the Bell Tower, where the rally will be held at 11 am, are across the street on the opposite side of the building.

    PARKING
This Monday, January 15, is Lobby Day. It is also a federal holiday, so street parking in Richmond is free on that day. There are also various garages in the area which have public parking for a fee, including on 7th Street north of Broad Street.
Here is a link to parking information:

    MARSHALLING AREA
We will be marshaling into teams between the Bell Tower and the water fountain, just across Bank Street from the General Assembly. Look for people wearing GSL stickers. Here is a map. We will marshal where you see "HERE" in a circle:

    ENTERING THE BUILDING
We will leave the marshaling area and enter the building from Main Street. If you are carrying, you MUST have a CHP to get into the building. MAKE SURE YOUR CHP HAS NOT EXPIRED AND HAVE A PHOTO ID WITH YOU!
    RALLY
The rally begins at 11 am sharp and the stage will be in the exact same location as the Marshaling area, above. We must be careful not to block the sidewalks during the rally. No signs can be stuck into the ground or attached to any structures (except the stage VCDL will have).
After the rally, if you have not visited with your own Senator and Delegate, head back into the General Assembly Building to do so. You might get together with others and form a mini-team that only goes to each member of the mini-team's own legislator's offices.
    FOOD
After the rally, there are restaurants around the General Assembly area. Best bet is to go south, down to Cary Street and then go left (east). There are also some other restaurants if you simply head east on Main Street.
See you there, VCDL! I'm looking forward to flooding the General Assembly Building with people wearing GSL stickers!

    ACTION ITEMS FOR TODAY!
There are 38 gun bills going to be heard in the Senate Courts of Justice Committee on MONDAY (27 are gun-control bills and 11 are pro-gun bills). I need you to do this TODAY if at all possible. If not, as soon as you can.
I'd rather that those of you who are coming to Lobby Day simply lobby in teams and attend the Rally at 11 am as we've already planned. Bob Sadtler and I will speak at the committee hearing, and all of you will have already flooded the Senators on the committee with your emails, below.
    ACTION ITEMS (2)
    1. Click here to send a *pre-written* email to your Senator to SUPPORT the pro-gun bills (the computer will figure out who your Senator is automatically based on your address):

    2. Click here to send a *pre-written* email to your Senator to OPPOSE the gun-control bills (the computer will figure out who your Senator is automatically based on your address):

THE VCDL LEGISLATIVE TRACKING SYSTEM IS UP AND RUNNING!
Click here to see the status of all the gun bills (this is also available on the VCDL web site). The list will continue to be updated until the General Assembly session ends in March:

I don't know when the bus will arrive in Richmond, but the meeting time is supposed to be 8:00 AM. Seeing how cold it will be tomorrow, I would expect people to move a bit slow.

I’m driving in and won’t be there until 9:30 or so. I’ll PM you and we can plan to rendezvous.

A Virginia state Senate panel has defeated a Democratic push for stricter gun laws.

A Republican-led panel voted Monday to block legislation that would allow cities and counties to ban firearms at certain public events. The bill came in response to a violent white nationalist rally in Charlottesville last summer where several participants were heavily armed. Former Gov. Terry McAuliffe enacted similar rules on a temporary basis last November.

The panel also voted down a bill to expand mandatory background checks on gun buyers. The vote comes two days after newly sworn-in Gov. Ralph Northam, a Democrat, pushed for universal background checks during his inaugural address.
