Friend is looking for one (doesn't want to build), I thought Windham Weaponry was a good choice, but thought I'd ask you smart folk.

Windham is a very good option. Once in a blue moon, their HBAR rifle can be found for under $700. He'll have money left over for mags and ammo

But if he wants to spend a $1000, a Colt LE6920 HBPW is an excellent MD option that should hold decent resale value.

The same thing I buy now every time I have an extra thousand, Colt (although I snuck in an FN at the top because....why not?):

Combloc... you have a lot of cool toys (even a warm blanket for cold nights) but you run out the door because the shit hit the proverbial fan! Which one do you run with? Just curious...

I'd have to agree with the Colt or FN crowd. My current issue patrol rifle is a Colt M4 full auto and I had an old FN 16A2 with 3 round burst prior to that. Never a failure with either and I've hammered a lot of rounds down range. (Sometimes just burning through ammo allotments to the point of absurdity)

A little bit of care and maintenance when needed and you're usually good to go.
