    For the money, the vortex crossfire 3x9x40 is a great value ($130 on amazon). I have it on my 30-06 and it is a world of difference between the scope that came with my 308 in a package.

    Second this recommendation. I use the vortex 3x9x50 because it was on clearance. Great value in a scope.

    MDS,

    I need recommendations for a good general hunting scope for my muzzleloader and Ruger 77. All of my shots are 100 yards or so max so nothing huge is needed. I have a Leupold VX1 on one of my rifles and it has been great. My first thought is to get two more for my other rifles and call it a day.

    Does anyone have good experience with Vortex or other scopes I am not thinking of in the woods? Any bad experiences to be aware of? I am trying to keep my budget for each around $225 - $250 max.

    Thoughts?

    Hi Bossman;
    I'm a fan of the "stick with what you know" method in this regard. If you're happy with the Loopy VX1, why not stick with it? There's always areas for improvement but its a good scope, you're familiar with it, you know it works, and it's a rarely used item that you just need it to work when the time comes.

    That said, I'm a Nightforce user and will stick with their products for a long time to come. After taking some deviations, I've come back to NF and buy the same model and reticle across the board. The only adjustment I make is to buy differing magnifications and objective diameter as appropriate for the rifle.

    Stick with what you already know, is my input to your question.
