McDavitt is the 15th U.S. service member to die in the nearly two-year-old fight against ISIS, and the first from Maryland.

No matter where you are this 4th of July, please take a moment to think of Nathaniel.

Sobering reminder for those of us who have young men in the field. God bless he and his family.

    Absolutely.

    -------------------

I put this in 'Event Planning' because there is an upcoming event this 4th of July in honor of Nathaniel, but I had to get permission before I could post this. If anyone is interested in helping Nathaniel's father honor his son, please contact Tim Walters for District 32 and let him know you want to help, http://waltersfor32.com/. Otherwise just show up, will be wonderful either way.

    From Nathaniels dad:

""""My name is Mr. Philip McDavitt. I am a Republican, live in Glen Burnie, MD. and the father of USAF A1C Nathaniel H. McDavitt who died last year on active duty.

My son grew up in Severna Park, graduated from Severna Park HS and attended Anne Arundel CC before enlisting in the USAF. My son chose to register as a Republican and voted that way. It was a desire of my son (Nathaniel McDavitt) for us to buy a very large U.S. flag and carry it in the Severna Park 4th of July parade. I am writing you in hopes that you can help me.

I am carrying on with his dream. I have purchased a U.S. flag measuring 30' x 60'. But I need help carrying it. So I am asking you, would any of your members like to pitch in and help carry the flag in the parade? The parade lasts about an hour. The flag weighs about 25 pounds but is very large and we will carry it about a mile. Shortly after the parade I plan a casual lunch for parade walkers. I need 36-50 people and currently have 10. Ideally volunteers should be 18 years old but younger people can volunteer with parental consent. Parade rules! I will supply bottled water and sun screen. Volunteers should wear loose fitting, comfortable, cotton clothing and STURDY SHOES!!! We will be walking in the street and tennis shoes are not good for this.

This should be a lot of fun! Walk in the parade, carry a huge U.S. flag, laugh and have fun!!!!!!!!!"""""

    Gentleman,

Although the request came in to the District 32 Republican Club this is a patriotic request and spans any party. Please consider joining us and showing this father his son is not forgotten and we care as a community. The parade is always a lot of fun. And of course time is ticking on this one.:)

    Thanks.

    Call me if interested, 443-848-6291.

    AAR:
The parade was awesome, I had no idea it was this big of an event. The flag was about twice the size of the one pictured above. 60 of us carried it the 1.5 mile parade route. I got to meet several members of Nathaniels family, heard a detailed account of his passing, and his life.

A group of churches sponsored/hosted the parade, lots of free water and fellowship.

Those of us that carried the flag were mostly family/friends of Nathaniel, but also a few from the D32 Tim Walters Republican club/campaign and a few folks from the Archangels Riders MClub. Turned out one of them went through WOC school with me 20 years ago.

Waiting to see the Wonderwoman movie now. What a great day, what an pleasure to have walked with so many great Americans in honor of Nathaniel.

It was an honor carrying a 30'X60" flag for Airman McDavitt in the Severna Park Parade. We were towards the end and heard over and over again it was the best part of the parade. It was refreshing seeing men and women rise to stand as the United States of America flag came by!

A great and diverse group showed up to volunteer and create a life time memory. See you next year!
