Okay so a family member of mine recently acquired this Western Field 12ga from a widow who knew nothing about it. I know it's Ward's re-branded Stevens 520. It's got the forward safety and a left side slide release. I've attached a pic of the receiver. Looking to know approx. what year it is, and also what it's worth. The action is smooth, the metal has a light patina/pitting, and the stock is a little rough with a small chunk missing next to the stock lug. 30" barrel, bead sight.

That's a double hump, forward safety. 1912-1920. 1920 was the year they put the safety on the tang. After the change, they manufactured them until 1932.

Thanks for the info. That's a bit older than I thought. Any idea of it's value? Also I have the serial # if that helps narrow the age down.

Stevens serial numbers are almost impossible to pinpoint....it's a lot of guesswork...I could research it for you online and see if I can find something.

Value is under $200...it's a utility gun and not much of a collector. I'd probably say $150 to $175. It's not a showpiece, but they are good working guns.
