The wife and I will be visiting the Lancaster area next month. Primary goals are relaxation and fabric shopping.

But she is kind. Last year, we visited a very nice indoor range in East Earl. My plan is for her to drop me off with the Glock while she goes shopping. (I have to visit Obie's for the floor to ceiling experience.)

And I have the usual list of area gun shops.

I've checked handgunlaw and I see no issue with transporting the unloaded gun(s). Any issue with leaving secured it in the hotel?

And I know there's always the rental option.

    Keep in mind IANAL

Do you have a CCW from a state with PA reciprocity/agreement? If so then your hotel room should qualify as a vacation domicile. If not, I think you can open carry in PA except in Philadelphia. Lancaster is pretty rural, and you shouldn't get many stares if you decide to exercise that right. PA also has this kind of catch-all statement in their laws " No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of the Commonwealth."
Good luck. I think you'll be fine.

Unless my understanding of the law is incorrect (and it might be), if you have a CCW from ANY state you can carry in your car in PA. "* (11) Any person while carrying a firearm in any vehicle, which person possesses a valid and lawfully issued license for that firearm which has been issued under the laws of the United States or any other state."Title 18 §6106

I take several guns to PA every time I go to our place in the mountains. Just carry properly (cased, unloaded, in the trunk etc.) I've never had a problem even when driving from PA back down to MD for a Sunday morning Hooligan shoot.

Hope Trop gun shop is on your list. They're just north in Elizabethtown. Nice shop and an indoor range. Another place in Elizabethtown I believe is called Tactical Supply or something like that. They're over by the Amtrack station.

Do you have a carry license? If not, you cannot legally have a firearm (as defined in that section of law, generally handgun, SBR, SBS) in a vehicle in PA. Except under a few very specific exemptions that involve driving DIRECTLY TO AND FROM (ie, don't even stop for gas) specific locations.
