I don't need a formal estimate, but I am being told that the faux "chimney" around my furnace vent needs to be replaced.

I'm not doubting the fact of it, but I'm wondering if I'm being given a fair price on it.

Replace, re-flash, reseal... what should I be looking at as a minimum?

They're on the roof as it is for other things this week, and want to do it as part of the work.

It's hard to say without knowing the condition, size of the chimney and the extent of the repairs needed but it shouldn't be over $1500

*****I had one done on a rental while the roof was being replaced and it cost about $1100

Don't bite. Or just get an estimate from another chimney guy.
I'd like to see pics of what you are talking about.

It's the metal shell/box around the furnace vent.

This guy seems to be trying to make back money he gave away to get the job.

    Nice guy, but he's slick.

I can give you the info for the company we used if you want it. (I'm pretty sure we live within a few miles of each other.) They did a great job.

    Escaped MD-stan to WNC Smokies
Ours was at least TWICE the size of that (easily, I think it was over 4x8) and we went with the recommendation to go with stainless steel made to us by the father son team that installed it; they are professional chimney sweeps, they ordered it fabricated out of PA IIRC and took em all day and down here in WNC it ran us something like $2,300 all in (took em half a day to erect and then disassemble the scaffolding they needed just to get to a part of the roof where they could get the old one down and new one up. (What a m’fer of a job but, man, we aren’t sure the original builder even used galvanized on the original and lawd knows: we sleep better knowing that sucker will never leak while we’re in this place!

    Best o’ success to ya!

    Mark and Buttons in Reisterstown!
They are the only people I let touch my fireplace and chimneys.

I had two chimneys done, reflashed/cleaned and new caps( stainless steel) and one sleeved 6 years ago!
    About $1,500.
