The cuts in the slide on my P16-40 are odd, and I wanted night sights. I took mine to Hatfield's in Manassas, VA. They recut the slide and put night sights on my gun. They also pulled the 80-series crap out, did a trigger job, and made a custom trigger for me. Good folks, but long wait times.

I noticed on the front of my M&P9 the dovetail seemed a proprietary dimension.

One suggestion. A good smith could remove the front sight, set up on a mill or good drill press, and install a brass bead front sight for a nominal fee. Or drill all the way through and install a fiber optic light pipe. That might be all you need. Try that.

If you need rear sight work after you try the front only, the rear could be spotted on each side of the notch and sight paint put in or drilled all the way through for light pipes. Not sure how durable that would be. If all this is unsatisfactory and you want to go return to original you can still S&W replacement sights if you find you don't like it.

I have the same issue with my usp9. I can't see the black on black, especially shooting a black target. Night sights are in my future.
You might think about fiber optic instead. I whined for years that there were nothing but black sights for the USP Compacts until HiViz brought out FO sights back in 2012. Once I got a set and put them on I have been a happy camper. I have the set that has 2 red tubes in the rear and a green one in the front. These fit the full size.

1911's are very personal items. If the romance is gone, sell it and buy one that you can love. There is no point in dragging things out if you are less than happy.

I can't say for sure from the picture but the rear sight looks like the same type of cut on the Nighthawk slide that I used for a 1911 build class a couple months ago. I used Kensight rear sights.

+1 for Tooltech too. They relamped the Heinie straight 8 sights on my Kimber and put a whote outline around the front sight like I prefer. Good turnaround time and good folks to deal with.
