I recently bought a Lower that had a buffer tube attached. My problem is that the buffer is just attached with no Castle Nut. I have tried turning it with my hands with no avail. Seems that there my have been something applied to the threads. I don’t want to damage the lower but I want to get the buffer tube off. Thoughts?

Try heating it up a bit.

    To soften the adhesive.

    Not too much heat.

    A vice will help too.

Leverage will help too. Try leverage, gently, before applying heat. Righty tighty lefty loosey.

Just remember to protect the pieces from jaw marks.

As long as it wasn't something completely overkill, like green Loctite or rocksett - a heat gun and padded vise is a good starting point.

If it is Rocksett, soak it in boiling or really hot eater for about 10min. Should come right off

Worst case scenario with rocksett, may have to let it soak for an hour or so in hot water. But yeah, if someone went that far, water soak will remedy that.

check inside and out for staked threads. So how does the safety détente (little hole to right if looking at from the rear) stay in?
