Does anyone use the trailer hitch cargo carriers to transport deer after the kill?

The reason I am asking is I have a cap on my truck and if I put a deer in the back the blood starts to smell relay bad shortly after even though I wash it out very well. I bought a 6.5 X 12 foot trailer but that thing is almost as big as my truck and hurts my gas millage and is a pain to drive around all the time.
I have been thinking about getting the cargo carrier and using that but not sure how it would work. any disadvantages to them?

When we go in my truck, just sling 'em in the bed.
But with dads jeep cherokee, we use the hitch rack. We always wrap game in a tarp real good. Look where your exhaust comes out. Probably ok, but still try to wrap up good.

Oh, and fyi, its tough to get more then 3 deer on a rack. You need lots of straps or rope. Seems like something is always sticking out.

This is what I was going to suggest to Rusty to use with an SUV in his thread about diesel pickups, but it seemed like he had his heart set on a truck. I don't hunt or process deer, but I would think something like this would be great.

I have two, one like the one pictured (although not as nice) which I got to use with a station wagon for long trips. The other one is aluminum, and it folds 90* up when not in use. The aluminum stays bright and clean with just a rinse. I think I got it from Northern Tools/Hydraulics.

Here is the aluminum one. I have been very satisfied with this.

People use them to haul deer all the time. Be careful because it can obstruct the view of your license plate.

Thats kinda the idea isn't....I just got some pictures of my truck in the mail when I went huntin Labor day weekend.

If I'm gonna get a ticket, then pull me over.

My truck is designated for Deer blood. I did add two extra drain holes in the front of the bed.

Most of the time when I leave the farm I just strap them on the tail gate and get on down the street to the walk-in cooler in the garage.

However, I have considered buying one of those cargo rack things with the trailer hitch, but, by the time I add in the cost of a new trailer hitch rig and the cargo rack, I'm usually already at the Garage before I finish totaling it all up.

Yep, dc just sent me some pictures of my jetta. I had a kayak sticking out of the trunk, if it had been 5-6 inches taller, they wouldn't have been able to read my license plate due to the angle lol

There is an adapter that allows you to add a hitch ball to the rack. I like it because I can pivit the rack in the up position. Also it makes the rack higher off the ground.

I went out to walmart and bought one for $60. I got it together in about 10 minutes and it is on the back of my nissan frontier. All i have to do is get a deer tonight and test it out

Snow sled or deer sled! Pull that sucker rite in the back. 2 ratchet straps. No mess!no tarps. Used to do it all the time in my ford escort when I first started driving.

Recently borrowed one to take to Lake Gaston. I was able to put a bunch of wood and a big cooler of food on the back of my Grand Cherokee. I'll definitely be picking one up or if I have time weld one together.
