Are there any members on this site that have range time with this rifle? If so what's your feedback?

I have one sitting out at Corsica Coatings waiting for pick-up, bought it on a whim as I have an extra DSM-1 scope that will work well forward mounted and .308 and 7,.62*51 are two calibers I have centered on for mid to long range work.

Probably be a few weeks until I get to a range test. From what I have seen:

    Pros:

    M77 action
    Short length/light
    Forward Rail
    GR sights
    Detachable mag
    Good accuracy (from photos)
Ultimate evolution of the Scout Rifle. The Savage Scout is its primary competition but for $50 a flashider and laminate is worth it for me.

    Cons:

Scope must be forward mounted and high to retain GR sights
Short barrel really will hurt .308 velocity
    Expensive compared to the competition

I've been looking at this rifle as well.
It comes with a rail that will accept a picatinny or weaver mount if you want to mount it forward of the action.
It also has Ruger rings and mounting cuts machined into the action if you want to mount a scope farther back.
Here's an article with photos with expandable pics showing what I'm trying to describe.

Not me, I'm currently saving for other purchases.

Gotta say one thing though, if a stamped-received AK is supposed to last a lifetime and a milled-received AK lasts 2 lifetimes, I guarantee you that the Mauser-action Ruger Scout will probably last you 3 lifetimes!

I would seriously consider it if it came in a black stock and used M14 compatble mags.

    BERY BERY SERIOUSLY!

Id agree on that, wish it took M14 mags but even a proprietary mag will last 2 lifetimes in a bolt gun.

I am also fascinated by this rifle. I very much want to examine one the first chance I get, and would happily buy lunch and ammo if someone who owns one would like to go shooting with me.

If it had a 20" barrel I'd get one right now. Like right now.

    me too!

That would exceed the length proposed by Jeff Cooper as ideal for a "Scout Rifle".

Although I still don't understand why Ruger would not offer barrel-size/thickness option for its weapons. Whoever does their market research needs a pop in the head (they're welcome to hire my super-paid, super-experienced Strategic Market Research VP wife).

The Ruger is a fine looking rifle.

I don't particularly like the price though.

But I am a Ruger fan

But I spent a lot on reloading supplies @ Cabelas AND the 1911 group buy

Looks like the horns of a dilemma...
