    S&W 4013 (6904) (eta: 3913 and more)

I like older DA/SA pistols, have a 5906 that’s great fun but definitely too big to carry. Maybe one of the compact versions though - has anyone had one in the past and feel like sharing opinions, experiences, good/bad/ugly, etc?

They pop up once in a while, I might could keep an eye out for either the 9mm or .40

The 6906 had a rep for being accurate...probably the most accurate of the S&W 9mm pistols. Decent trigger. A bit on the heavy side. Plump.

6906 is a shorter version of the 5906, basically a little shorter in slide/barrel and grip. Think of it like 5906 - Sig 226, 6906 - sig 229.

4013 is a the 40 cal. Single stack, thinner for sure. 3913 is 9mm small single stack, both are great guns if you can find them. My 4013 is one of my most accurate pistols.

3 gen Smiths are great pistols.
If you can't find a 3913 and find a good deal the 4013 will work just fine.

Older 4013s were built on the 4513 frame, "newer" old ones are built 9 mm frames.

I like the ones built on the 45 frame. TD

Lucky Gunner had an article with a generation chart of all the models. I used to dream on GunBroker using that chart....

Also, what do folks think is a good value for a 3913/4013 these days? I see a few of each on GB, but can't really tell what they "should" be selling for...

I carried a 3913 as a plainclothes duty gun. Excellent firearm, reliable and easy to conceal, light but not too light, and super-accurate. Wish I had bought it when they changed out of them and I had the chance.

I used to carry a 6906 which was a compact version of the 59xx series. It had a 12+1 capacity and was DA/SA. These were called the third generation S&W duty pistols. Mine was the 2nd revision which had the better sights. I loved the gun, it was hammerless had a decent trigger pull and carried lots of ammo.

I would think the only issue you would find today is with finding magazines. Additionally, I don't know if anyone ever made 10 round mags for them.

I don't know if the compact models were made in .40. I wouldn't own one as the frame is aluminum and would get the snot knocked out of it.
