My grandfather's .300 Savage. Not sure of the age, but the serial starts with 512. It is in pretty nice shape, and am planning to sell here in Iowa. Looking for thoughts on a fair asking price?

Photo of my grandfather holding it, along with a deer and bear he got. Uncle is on the left and my father is under the bear. Sometime around early 50's.

    I love Savage 99s

Just came here to say that

You aren't going to sell that are you?

Don't want to but my parents won't be living on their own more than maybe a few years, and no other family seems to want it. I live in Korea. Looking like it (sadly) has to go.

Might have to sell it via FFL transfer, if anyone from MD is willing to buy from an FFL we would transfer thru here in Iowa. I think that is how it would work? I also have 40 rounds of .300 savage. I fired about 20 rounds thru it around the year 2000. Dad had it checked out OK by a gunsmith, and has been in the safe, oiled every few years, since. Not drilled or tapped. Still in .300 savage.

Someone just made a run of .300 savage shells, as I saw boxes of them at Fleet Farm in Ankeny, IA for about $54 for 20 or 25, if memory serves?

Mine is in .303 Savage, which means it doesn't get shot nearly as often as it should. (I have 100 pieces of brass and no realistic sources for more)

I hunted a long time for one in 30-30. Mine is 1918 if I recall correctly, she's real old but basically the same style of this rifle. I always appreciated the Schnabel forend on the old ones.

Yes you could sell it to someone here through an Iowa FFL

Due to age your FFL could ship to an 03FFL holder here as well.

I'd buy it but for the baby who will soon make an appearance

Throw out a price and see if one of us bites (I can NOT buy any more guns right now)
    It is C&R eligible.

OP if you've got a list of stuff to sell post it up. I only ask cause this is your second thread today on this topic

Well, I have the single shot Ithaca 20ga I posted in shotguns, this .300 Savage. Dad also has a model 97 Winchester 16ga shotgun that I haven't taken photos of yet. Also a Winchester .22 lever action.

Problem is I leave in about 10 days, and dad doesn't want to deal with selling it. If I don't sell by then, I would probably hold off until next year when I visit the US again. The holiday makes this more difficult.

    The 97 could be cool

I'm curious about the lever action

Post up some pics let's see what you've got

Here is the Winchester 250 in .22 cal.

Anyone have an idea what one of these would go for? I already have a local buyer on the Savage at $600. I had another guy call on the Ithaca 20 gauge too.

Ended up selling the 20ga, 300 savage, and Winchester .22 this past week. Savage went for more than I expected (a grand), after pulling from the first sale due to 2 locals telling us it was undervalued. We got decent money, while the new owners were very happy with the deals they got on some nice guns.

Dad is thinking about giving the 16ga to a cousin of his.

Good for you on the Savage, I would have gave that somebody I know who was close to me that would appreciate it, before letting it go for any less than that.
Some things cant just be bought and because that was your G dads that's one of them as far as I care.
So pony up or hit the bricks- glad you and buyer are happy.

The Savage 99 looks in excellent condition and could bring a lot more than $700. Check the Savage Collectors forum at 24hourcampfire.com
