The good thing is that the County police seem very aware of the issues in Catonsville and respond like gangbusters when something happens. We had about 15 police cars when we were burglarized by the local herion addict.

54rndball, I guess I am going to have to adopt your hope for some acreage in WV. Since we just started a church here in Catonsville I will not be going anywhere.

Just heard from the guy who bought our old house in Academy Heights last month. His wife's parked car got sideswiped and the shed behind the house got busted into. While we were living there, one of the kids' bikes got swiped off the back porch. Academy Heights is a large rowhouse development around Mt DeSales between Edmondson and Balto Natl Pike. The big problem seems to be renters with illegal propensities, i.e. drug activity and minor crime. Also the scrappers like to hit the place too. Now we are out of there and have a driveway, garage, big house, and that makes a big improvement in my lifestyle. Just have to get the man cave set up in the two car garage.

That whole area (Academy Heights, Ten Hills, Hunting Ridge, etc) are seeing a lot more vehicle and property crime over the last couple of years.

Don't buy or rent anywhere near a bus line and the crime drops probably 50%.... this isn't based on supportable fact but on gut feeling and personal observations.

Yep, it's public transportation that brings the garbage in. Same thing is happening in the Severn area. I lived there for almost 30 years with never a problem. Now all you hear is robberies, stabbings, etc. thanks to the bus line.

The subway was robbed at gunpoint last week, the one next to Advance Auto and Safeway. The AA female walked in, ordered a sub, sat and ate it. She then put up her hood and robbed the store at gunpoint... they have it all on video

Isn't that on the wrong side of Balto Natl Pike, in the same shopping center as Chick-Fil-A?

I moved to catonsville back in the mid 80's and just moved away couple years ago. I must say it was a great place to grew up in the 90's. Then about 10-12 years ago thinks went south there. About 5-6 years ago my dads friend Brian was shot at a convenient store and the clerk was shot too. Then one of his homeless friends was jumped by a couple of kids up by St. Tims and was beat up really back. Then after that they beat his head with a brick and I want to say he lost sight in one of his eyes cause of it. Then my uncle got jumped by a couple guys in Paradise by the block wall. Then my dad was riding his mountain bike up by st. Tim's and he had s guy try to rob him with a knive but he rode away fast. It's really sad to watch what has happen to a once great place to live. To bad it's so close to the city line.

I lived in Catonsville 30 years ago. Moved to Howard County when we needed a bigger house. Catonsville has been going down hill for a while and will eventually fall just like Edmondson Village and Woodlawn.

And if you listen to a scanner you will find Howard County is falling too!

We lived in the middle of Catonsville, and moved out when I was eight. That was 53 years ago. Wasn't as bad then.:)

The problem with White Flight out of Baltimore is now things have come full circle. Baltimore is getting nicer and the ring suburbs are getting more ghetto.

Of course Catonsville is having problems. Drive a mile or two East on Rt 40 and what do you see? 'The Element' is not robbing folks in it's own hood. It is going just a few miles into The County and then scuttles back under it's rock. By the way, has anyone seen Randallstown lately?

I watched the same thing happen in DC when I lived there. DC is now full of Yuppies and The Element took over PG county.

Not Catonsville, just down the road in Arbutus.

Ever since BGE has been running new gas lines in the area, there's been more break ins, stealing out of cars, etc. than before they were in here. With all the sub-contractors in here doing the work, there's a lot of eyes on people's property & their daily habits.

What sub-contractors are working in the area? I'd give BGE a call

There was prolly 4-6 different subs in here doing work. Had some crews digging the street & running the pipe, another to repair & pave the road. Different ones to run new pipe & take out/install new meters.

Fairly certain your problems in Severn are related to the bangers living in Stillmeadows and that lovely low income housing over off Jacobs road. Lots of places in DC and Baltimore have bus and subway lines and are still nice areas.

AACO just can't get a hold on crime in those areas, and the introduction of the casino and the clientele that attracts, along with the fort and the clientele that tend to be attracted to junior enlisted folk and you've got a nice boiling point over there in Severn.
