I can probably make you one. It will have to be a smooth bore

I don't plan to hunt with it but I have lots of lead I can sling through one. I found this project the other day while seeking out a barrel maker, of course I don't want a 20 pounder, but, the lathe work is nice: Howitzer Project

Barrel length of 8-10" would be great in a .50 cal smoothbore. I found a fella who will make me one, but, he can not drill a bore deeper than 5". I explained that I would like to have a barrel 8-10" overall, but, the last 1" has to be solid. He thought I wanted it drilled all the way through. He has some 1-1/4" OD SS stock, which I do like. I have the skills to build this project, I just don't have the proper tools.

BTW, where are you in SoMd ?

Sounds like a trip to Wally World is in order, recycled golf balls are cheap. I buy them for my golf ball launcher that threads on my AR, golf has never been so fun. :D

That mortar is just beautiful! I'm really impressed with your creations.
I've got a couple things that shoot golf balls and it sure is fun.
Where are you shooting it and are others allowed by any chance?
I've had to drive 5+ hours to WVA to shoot mine and it's just too darn far.
Still got to figure out how to put sights on them so I can shoot them at Myrtle Grove.
If you need golf balls I might be able to get some, there's golfers in my family and they can find a lot of them.

:) here's a link to the first firing of the mortar on 11-11-11 at 11:11 am. first with 80 gr 2f and the next one is with 200 gr 2f black powder. I think it went in to outer space on that one http://youtu.be/suC2ZMVkuUs . A salute to our Veterans on Veterans Day.

I'm just test firing it in my back yard. there is a lot of woods back there, not mine. I need to find a good open spot to see how far it will shoot.

    Epps, that was so cool!

    Now I want one. :)
Will look nice in my front slab on display when inlaws visit. :)

Any chance of you selling one, and say a small stack (4?) of balls?
Just curious what something might cost if you were so inclined.

I'm going to make some more of them but i don't have any more of the oak wood for the bed. that piece of oak i had saved for 2 year. I can get more form the Amish saw mill down the road but it is all still green and it takes at list 6 months to dire out. If you wont one I can make it for $125. for the barrel assembly but you would have to make the bed for it.
