I have a Henry Big Boy in 357 magnum and it is well built by a great American company. Can't go wrong with Henry unless you are in the "What about my loading gate?" crowd.
I have several Henry Lever Actions.
I have the lesser expensive round barrel 22 and its very accurate and the sights are easy to see. Mine is NOT the buckhorn type but the simple squared off ones that I like.
Leather wrap the lever and your good.
For a 22 Lever, I don't know what options you have other than Tube. I know Ithica made a single shot long ago.
I have the 16 inch Small Game Carbine. The reason I got the short barrel is that the gun balances perfectly in the field. Henry rifles with octogon barrels tend to be nose heavy unless you get the carbine version.
That said, with a 2 power scope, I can make one ragged hole at 25 yards and with a 9 power scope I can do the same thing at 50 yards. They are very accurate rifles and worth the money.
The only non tube lever action I can recall was the Ruger 96 which uses the same 10 round mag as a 10-22.
And because there’s more than meets the eye to making a lever action that works. Marlin sure enough found that out. Hopefully, what they’re making today is and continues to be better than it was after the move. At any price, their rifles probably will never be what they once were.
