Just think how many incidents like this go unreported or are handled internally. Only reason this went public is because the student in question made it a public issue.

When I was at Wilson (dinosaurs roamed the earth), my buddy decided it would be cool to bring his grandmother's pearl-handled .32 auto to school. There were no metal detectors back then. He showed it to a couple of us and walked around all day with it in his pocket. Nobody squealed. A few of us went to Rock Creek Park after school and emptied the magazine in the general direction of some sturdy tree trunks. None of us had any idea how to reload it, so after we ran out of ammo, the gun went back to granny's bedside table. Come to think of it, that was the very first time I ever shot a pistol. It was love at first sight :)
