I'm traveling this weekend to a rented home in VA, but I will be leaving my job in DC early to get there. I want to take my handgun with me to VA but I'm not sure how I can legally take it with me if I have to stop in DC and work in my office for 4 hours. I usually take the MARC train. I was planning to pack it with my stuff and let my wife drive it down when she's picking me up. Since she doesn't have an HQL, could that be a problem? When every state has different laws, it makes it hard to keep up. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

If you stop in DC, you have NO FOPA PROTECTION. You are subject to arrest and prosecution, which you most assuredly will be if caught.

    bad idea

I'm confused where your wife is picking you up? Train in VA or in DC at your place of business? If not in DC why couldn't she transport it to VA?

On my way from MD to VA, I travel through DC quite often with ammunition, long, and hand guns; "all boxed and locked"... I don't stop, even for fast food, much less any other reason... Stopping at a DC address for any reason, transporting ammunition or firearms in your vehicle will cost you big time if found in your possession by any number of DC LEO alphabet agencies... Best advise, go around the beltway, as I have never been stopped and still have some concern with the hassle that may result, if I'm ever stopped...
