Let's assume a wild improbability and say that all officers not polled somehow support Lainer. What does is say that one in three officers have no confidence in her ability to lead? That even by itself is powerful, I think.

I don't think a city police chief stands a snow ball's chance in Hades as long as they work for a liberal mayor and city council.

The fundamental duty of a Police Chief is to meet the expectations of the mayor/ council. They are apointed by the mayor/ council, and serve at their pleasure. Every once in a while a PD/ Fire / EMS Chief will go rogue and think they are there to Serve the People and Public Safety, but they are quickley known as former Chiefs.

Like Baltimore, now the DC mayor can hang the albatross around Lanier's neck.

Agreed in whole. She is a product of the Vince Grey era in which DC began the change to a younger, whiter, hipster city. The last mayoral election saw the defeat of David Catanian due to dirty tricks by DC's old guard. I would not be surprised to see Chief Lanier removed so one of Bowser's henchmen can be appointed.

So Cathy you took 34 illegal guns off the street.

    But how many criminals?

    About 21.

The guns are considered illegal because of DCs CPWL law and not because they were stolen or used in a violent crime and for the record the MAJORITY of these 34 guns did not have extended mags.

They'll be back on the street before the paperwork is completed. If there is no serious enforcement of the law by judges who will give stiff sentences to these thugs nothing will change.

    And not just in DC.

"She" refers to the police chief - not the mayor or reporter of WAMU article - right?

97.5% no confidence, even of only 1/3 of the force in the union, is a stunning number.

Viewed differently, her support does amount to that coveted number: 3%
