    I smelt wheel weights all the time.. separate the stickons from clipons, as the stickons are pure lead, clipons are alloys. Then either drop em on a steel plate to detect zinc amongst the lead, or use a pair of dikes and nip em.. you will know real fast. Iron (FE) weights are easy to distinguish and can be picked with a magnet if desired.

    Keep your melt temp around 675-700 and anything other than COWW will just float on top. Skim off what floats.. lol

    If you are smelting, sawdust as a flux is the best. I use sawdust to smelt and clean the lead, pour into ingots, then beeswax in the casting pot.

    Zinc goes to the recycler along with the clips and irons...

    Sticky just described what many of us do - 97% of the time.

    Separate the known Zn & Fe crap, melt the good stuff and scrape off the crud. It ain't all that hard...
