I checked my crossbow today to make sure it was ready for bow season and it was shooting 3” low. I had the same exact problem last year and the year prior as well.

The bow is about 10-12 years old, and of my friends seems to think its loosing power

Is a crossbow loosing power a thing? If so how do you fix it?

Hey Brian, I’d imagine 10-12 years on a crossbow is a pretty good stretch.
String and or cable would probably help but you don’t know if the limbs are about worn. If your in the market for a new one, check into Killer Instinct.
Lightweight and fast. Also accuracy is ridiculous.

I could see one losing some power over years of use, but if only shot a few times a season, I don't see it. So depends I think. 3 inches low is not so bad and why you need to check and adjust both bows and xbows.

What brand and model is it? I have my string and cables changed every three years. Regardless what shape they are in. Check your limbs closely with your hands and an LED light. Check all the bolts and screws make sure they are tight. All these factors can make your crossbow not accurate. Don't compromise!

They say (at least Excaliber) to unstring your crossbow between seasons if you're not going to shoot it. Gives the limbs a chance to relax.

Truth being told, I don't do that and my Excaliber Vortex still shoots as fast as it always has. Need to go out in the yard and chronograph it again though.

Check your limbs with a cotton ball.

If any stands of cotton stick to the limbs, there are micro cracks.

    Interesting, thanks!

I’m going to do a few checks on the bow, but I’ve already started looking into a new one. In all honesty, i’ve gotten my money out of this bow. I’d be willing to bet its shot close to 50 deer
