Saw this today at a shop and was intrigued. An 86 grain bullet, 1650 fps for .357 Magnum.

I generally use 125, 158, and I have loaded some 180 grain .357 Magnum, but this stuff might be fun. The down side is, it was about 23 bucks a box for 20 rounds. I don't want to spend a dollar and change each time I pull the trigger.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

FMJ? Unless it's designed to break apart on impact somehow, it'd just make a 'prox 9mm hole through the target.

No range time. I am familiar with the projectile. The theory is interesting. Appears devastating in gelatin. Ideally would need to see it in tissue.

I miss the tnoutdoors9 channel on YT. This ammo would be right up his alley. Guessing this is an over penetrator based on groove channels in the bullet. Wonder what the muzzle velocity for this round would be out of a rifle.

Nope, according to the ARX website it is an injection molded copper/polymer compound (no lead). Seems you can get bullets for reloading also w/ data on the company website.

    Interesting ammo tho'.

I remember the first and only time I shot some 110 grain .357 magnum loads out of my 4" bbl. S&W 686-1. They turned the thing into a fire-breathing dragon. Never again.

A great round is or was the 110 grain .38 Special +P+ which was known as the "Treasury Load"...it was law enforcement only and standard issue for Secret Service and other Treasury agents before transitioning to sell-loading pistols. Once it was discontinued Winchester (or maybe it was distributors) sold what was surplus on the open market. I had several cases of it but am down to only a couple of boxes now. My Python snubby absolutely loves the stuff.

I have shot this stuff in .38spl and 9mm. It is very accurate, reliable, mild to shoot, and light to carry. It was featured in a recent article in American Rifleman. Sort of the best of both worlds with fmj feeding characteristics and hp wounding capabilities. I would like to see more real world performance data, but tests have been very positive. It seems slow to catch on since it's quite a departure from convention. Pretty innovative IMO.

I don't think it would over penetrate. Its so light I think it will dump all its energy in about the first 10 inches and stop.

I was wrong. I just looked at a video and the rounds zipped right through a block of gel. They didn't expand at all. Not sure how useful they would be for self defense since there is very little in the way of a wound channel/cavity. With so little weight I wonder what will happen if they hit bone

I have used it in several guns and found it to shoot too low and left in my P3AT and S&W Chief's Special. In the P9 and M&P 40 it was spot on. I liked the concept but went with a similar round made by Underwood. Underwood uses pure copper and they shoot to POA in my short barrel pistols. They also have loads in 65 and 90 gns either standard velocity or +P. I have shot them in water jugs and I was happy with the results.

    Where they send me.
I don't know what I would do with it. Flatter shooting would be nice for certain small game/varmints but need to know it shoots well and accurate and at $1/rd not sure I want to burn that money re-sighting things in.

For defense the 125gr SJHP in .357 is the one all others chase after and want to be (.357 SIG was built to be just that in an auto) so I don't see it replacing that in my line up. It is often rated at 98% one shot stops so unless this new round is a perfect 100% (which I highly doubt) I don't see me getting into it.

Maybe in certain calibers (none come to mind though) it could make sense or if it was cheap plinking ammo I would get some.

I'm a sucker for oddball ammo so ordered some. Will join a container with rounds from Lehigh, Underwood (extreme defender/penetrator), Liberty, etc. IMG_20180821_214421~2.jpg
