I know this is probably common . So I know that the removal is done by removing the screws and pulling straight out. But my new ruger that has not been fired yet will not budge .
Does anyone have a suggested method. I don't want to damage the receiver.

    Thanks for any help.:)

Nope. Gave it a couple good hits. Harder than a TAP but not quite a WACK.
I will wait for a response. I just don't know how hard to hit the receiver. I would rather not hit it at all.

Got a big freezer? Try freezing it.

Your kidding. Would that help. I mean is that something that has been done?
I think I definitely would not want to hit the receiver after freezing it . Hopefully the barrel would just pull out.

    Changed zip code
disassemble the receiver and get a small enough hard rubber mallet to fit in the receiver and tap on the barrel from the inside...while holding the receiver...

I wouldn't hit the receiver if frozen..

The funny thing is that I started searching youtube 10/22 videos and in every single one the barrel just slips right out.
This barrel was a son of a bitch. Everything was tight as hell . Even the recoil buffer pin.
After taking apart the receiver the rubber mallet finally knocked it off.
Then the new barrel just slid right in.
Looks great. Thanks for the help.

If you have not gotten it taken care of yet, have you thought about applying some heat to the receiver? This will cause the receiver to expand. Obvious, heat the area where the barrel is inserted. The barrel should be thicker than the receiver, so it should take a while to heat up. Not only that, but the heat would have to be transferred from the receiver to the barrel. Hope this works for you.

FYI - It has never been an issue to remove my 10/22 barrel.
