What lever gun did you buy ??

When I was looking for a lever gun, I did a lot of research on what's available now and settled on an RG4570S. It's not the 1892 Winchester 44-40 I'd dreamed of since growing up in the '60's watching "The Rifleman" but I'm quite happy with the Rossi as a good compromise and it felt better in my hands over the others I'd held recently. It's my first lever gun but won't be my last! When I am more financially able, I'll be keeping my eyes out for more collectable vintage Winchesters, Marlins, Brownings, etc. and in more calibers. As I'd suspected, lever guns are way cool and that 45-70 cartridge is awesome! I'd never really paid attention to that cartridge until my local gun store (Bob's Sunoco - That Fishing Place) showed it to me. When people see me pull one of those out of the ammo box their eyes open wider than a '70's pornstarlet gazing upon John Holmes for the first time!

    ^^^^Very nice rifle!!!!!

I've read some articles on it, and it gets good to very good reviews!!!

Yes, I read a lot about it before buying it, too. Lots of people pooped on it because it was made in Brazil by a company associated with Taurus, suffered from QA issues, etc. but when pressed, they hadn't actually looked closely at one, much less shot one, nor would they acknowledge that Marlins aren't what they used to be and have just as many QA issues, if not more, and Winchesters are now made in Japan. Don't get me wrong, the old Winchester, Marlin, and Browning lever guns are worthy, just out of my price range right now. There is a whole forum for Rossi lever guns and after exchanging information with the guys over there, who'd actually owned all types of lever guns from the better known 'merkin lever gun makers and still highly recommended the Rossi, I bought one and haven't been sorry. It's a good looking lever gun, too. The RG4570 even has the Chuck Connors wide loop lever! The 30-30 and pistol caliber version have the standard lever.

There's nothing wrong with a Rossi in my opinion. Yea the 45/70 is a lot of fun out in public.
Just be careful what loads you shoot through it. When you have the cash look into the Japanese Brownings because the actions are stronger than most others.

Yup, that's why I was intrigued with byf43's recommended load of "40.0 grains of RL-7 and a Cast Performance 405 LWNGC boolit" because the pressure is lower but still has a good balance between performance and comfort, reportedly "travels at about 1660 fps and is easy on the shoulder."

Those Browning copies of the Winchester 1892 are really nice and the block design looks superior, based on my engineering background.
