I need to make a trip down to 300 Indiana Ave to add a pistol to my carry permit. Gawd, I hate making that trip into DC, but it's the only way.

Anybody else need to go who might want to make it a group effort/event?

i hate DC also. I've only been here 13 years but in DC 3 times total. If i had a DC permit, i would join ya.

now that you mention it though.... i might look into what's required for DC permit...

I thought it was relatively painless. Here's a link: DC Permit

thanks for the link. it appears my info was out of date (again), and i assume it is for others also as people are telling me that it's hard to get one in DC. but.. then i see this.. snippet from the page you linked...

    Update, 10/05/17

Pursuant to the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Wrenn v. District of Columbia and Grace v. District of Columbia, applicants for a license to carry a concealed handgun in the District of Columbia no longer need to provide a good reason for carrying a handgun. All other suitability and training requirements as described in the regulations and application must still be met. All forms and information sheets will be updated shortly. In the meantime, if there is a reference to providing a good reason, please disregard.

If your application for a carry license has been previously denied because of a failure to provide a good reason, you may reapply for a license to carry. You will not be charged a fee for this application.

sooo does my MD Wear and carry (CCW) permit training w/in the last 12 months count?? or better yet.. i have my MDCCW, can i just send in paperwork and register for the dc one?? it kinda looks that way.

nevermind: i found out why this doesn't "just work"

    Code:
Have you completed training in District of Columbia laws on firearms and self-defense? (There is no exemption from this requirement.)

So far.. all of the people i've spoken with say i need to take the course over again to include the DC part.. another.. $400??? really???

There's a written part which I think is free. The training depends on if the instructor is on their approved list.
Reason I don't get one (other than I don't go to DC much) is I'd have to take all the training and all the hassle which adds up big time.

    No.

DC will accept your MD 16 hour training if performed within the last 24 months. You will have to take the DC two hour law portion from an approved DC instructor and their 50 shot course of fire. This will run you ~$200.

You do not need to go in person. Mailing the form and a check works...

I sure hope you're right, but have searched their website and all I can find is the requirement to do it in person. Do you have a link, maybe, that explains the procedure for doing it by mail? Thanks in advance if you do.

If anyone thinks DC is less safe than Baltimore you have confirmed you are utterly clueless.

Historically , DC has had higher crime, and homicide rates than Baltimore , the flip flop has been comparatively recent . To this day , there are are areas of DC that rival any in Baltimore .

That said , the vicinity of MPD HQ, particularly in daytime, isn't bad by standards of any urban area .

DC used to have a requirement that any firearm you wanted to register had to be brought to 300 Indiana Ave. (MPDC HQ)

Heller III struck down that requirement.

I'd call and ask if you can avoid a trip.

To be clear, it's not DC that worries me. It's the trip on the Metro from New Carrollton with at least one transfer at Metro Center.

I was told by MPDC to mail the form to the Registration Section along with a check for 13 Bucks, made out to the DC Treasurer.

This makes sense given that the requirement to bring the firearm to DC was struck down.

Of course DC does stupid stuff all day long despite the common sense ruling by the Courts
