Drug control talk at a gun control hearing.

    Libertarianism strikes again.

I appreciate that she was trying to solve the same problem that the panel is supposedly trying to solve. By giving an alternate cause, she is pointing the finger at a real issue and showing that this bill is just posturing.

Exactly. The bill is pretending to be about safety, and whether or not you agree with her on drugs, she's calling their bluff.

Its because they are related. Just saying "no" to a proposed idea isn't as effective as saying "no, but here's what we can do to help with that issue and here's why". What democrat will oppose liberalizing drug laws, school investment, or mental healthcare reform? It's not a bad thing to present alternative solutions that have broader support.

the maryland democrats don't care if these bills lower gun crime. they hate gun owners and want to make them criminals.

This. It's not about keeping people safe, it's about antagonizing their political opposition and demonizing in the public sphere those who would rather seek personal freedom, self-reliance, and self-determination than submit themselves to their ever-metastasizing statist dystopia.

democrats use gov't as a religion and free, armed people are hard to force into worshiping it.

Alinsky 101. If you play by their rules, you've already conceded defeat.

Rather than trying and failing to convince them that they're wrong through their own arguments, which is doomed to failure because most folks will never fess up to their own ideological hypocrisies, that effort instead should be spent motivating your own base into action through arguments that appeal to them, and not those who seek to defeat you.

"frankly this feels like requiring an id to vote, but that would be racist"

brilliant. Much gnashing of teeth by the moms in the room.
