barrel length for suppressed AR-9 pistol

    PSA has their 9mm MOE complete lowers for $199.99 plus free shipping so I'm seeing an opportunity to get into a 9mm pistol. I've wanted to build one for HD for a while, but fun funds are low. If I go with a Glock mag type, I can use the Wifie's mags and save that expense. :D

    I'm looking to suppress it, so what's the best barrel length to go with? The shortest I've seen is 4" (out of stock at PSA) and 7.5" (in stock at PSA). Has anybody had any issues with the shorter barrels?

    Aren't the 4" barrels generally used for "under the handguard suppressor" builds? Personally speaking, I don't like pistol-length handguards, they are simply not long enough for me to get a good grip... I have to use a VFG, which I don't love either. I run 9mm AR-15s with ~7.5" barrel length and I'm very happy with them.

    What do you mean by BEST barrel length? I own a 5.5, an 8.5 and a 10.5 in pistol format. I don't know if one is better than the other. I personally like the 8.5 but that's because the way it's set up. The 10.5 will be going SBR IF I ever get the stamp. The 4.5 is really just a range toy for me.

    For HD, I doubt it will matter. I just recommend you buy the best parts and work out the bugs before that firearm goes in service.

    I have found that the 147gr ammo seems to work better out of my longer barreled 9mm AR pistols. The 5.5 seems to eat just about anything. BUT, I don't run a suppressor on any of them.

    Yes, I looked at it today in the picture thread. Got me excited. That made me search to see what 9mm stuff was selling for these days. That led me to a complete PSA AR-9 pistol lower for $199.99 shipped. Got me super excited for a couple of hours until PSA canceled my order because they don't ship complete lowers to foreign countries. So much for my low budget 9mm pistol!

    By the way, where is your thread about your 9mm?

    Since 9mm ARs are blowback, no issues with bbl length and gas port timing or pressures as would be with rifle cals.

    I have a adco 4.5 under the handguard build with an AAC Tirant 9. It stays subsonic, even in the dead of winter. I would do a 7.5 if I didnt have it suppressed.
