Bill Clinton signed an Executive Order forbidding all federal law enforcement agencies under the Executive Branch from selling or trading their firearms where they would end up being sold to the public...they would either have to be traded to an agency that wouldn't sell them or destroy them. Whether that Executive Order has been rescinded I've no idea...45 would be the guy to do it if it's still in force.

One agency I worked for destroyed some nice S&W revolvers and some collectible WWII Colt Commando revolvers when they transitioned to Sigs. I would have loved to have purchased the S&W I was issued...I hand picked it when it was received new and I tested them all it was the most accurate.

The 357 SIG is a solution to a problem that really doesn't exist...

There are already enough calibers with good qualities, prices & ready availability...

What does it do that a good 9, 40 or 45 can't do..?

There is a distinct advantage to working for small departments that require you to purchase your own weapons. (I don't know if this is still done these days)

I kept my S&W Model 10 HB, model 39 and Rem 870 until fast talking relatives talked me out of them.

The same could be said for the 40. As mentioned earlier, during every hoard, I could find the least popular calibers every time. 40 was everywhere.

...yet people still love the .40. I don't get the hate, really. It's a stupid argument. If the .40 is so lame, stand in front of one. End of argument.

Oh, and I reload .357 Sig too! :D

I love my .40 cal G27. I’ve also got a Lone Wolf .357 Sig conversion barrel. It’s a great little pistol.

I also wear a sparklely pink face mask. Not sure if there is any correlation.

I like it as well. Sure it's snappy but like you said, it'll do the job.

Very much so. I've only got 1 pistol left in .40 that I never shoot but a bunch of .40 ammo I've had for years. I'm thinking about either getting a 27 barrel for my 33 or grabbing another pistol in .40. (I've noticed used pistols in .40 tend to be a bit cheaper) I get the whole joking around thing about .40 but never understood the whole hatred thing or those who go on a diatribe about it's existence. "It's not needed, blah, blah, blah. STFU, you don't have to buy one if you don't like it.

I’m fine with your lifestyle choices.

Will you be allowed to purchase your issue firearm? I sense a disturbance in the surplus LEO force....

No we will not. Good luck to everyone looking for these. Federal agencies are not allowed to sell their surplus directly to employees or others. Usually they sell them in a lot to the new supplier who parcels them out. They are usually in pretty good shape, we put new slide assemblies on all of them about 3 or 4 years ago. They also come with night sights. Good hunting to all who are looking for a 357 Sig to round out the collection.

They are indeed a bit hard to find. Worth the search, though. Great firearm, congrats!

And THAT is perhaps the "stupidest" argument of all, good grief! You could pretty much substitute ANY caliber in place of .40 for that. Do better.

I can’t say i always trust government decisions, and there may be involved in the move back to 9mm less cost for ammo, less maintenance, worn parts, etc, and easier for some to qualify. Third reason may impact effectiveness, the first 2 not so much. While i have some friends whose judgment on the 9 versus debate i trust, who carry 9s for work, the 40 and the 357 sig are options with more energy, and in a G 27 or 33 are shot from the same size platform as the 9 in the G26. In those small pistols, neither The 40 or the 357 is as pleasant as a 9 and they take some extra work to shoot them with speed and accuracy. And practice with those small guns is extra work. In the bigger pistols, like the 229 or 31 they are tamer and i would think a more effective option. That said, a year ago i put away my 33 and have concealed carried a 43 with non +p HST 124 gr rds almost all the time.
