During the lockdown I received my C&R license so I decided to spend my time constructively.

I picked up these two nice examples:

The first is a 1967 Ruger Bearcat and the second is a 1966 Colt National Match. All in all, I am pretty happy.

Both very nice. Didn't know they made gold cups back then, I may have to look in to that.

It's a 1966 (?) Government model with a later Gold Cup slide and a bunch of upgrades it looks like.
The post-war National Match has a "NM" serial number suffix, the Government model has a "C" prefix (early) or suffix (1950-1970).
The 1960's NM have material removed from the slide to lighten it so probably just as well.

Colt referred to them as Gold Cup National Match early on, and it's on the 1960's boxes but the slide is just marked "National Match" w/o the Gold Cup until the 1970's Mark IV.

Here's an excellent run-down on the history:

I got a similar vintage Bearcat late last year. I am pleasantly surprised by how accurate it is. Has yours been back-fit with the transfer bar (safety conversion)?

You are absolutely correct. I wanted a shooter and I hope that is what I got.

Congrats on finally getting your C&R and beginning to add stuff to your bound book! My bet is you have a shooter that will make its debut at a Hooligan Shoot real soon... :innocent0

The Bearcat is a treasure. You were definitely enjoying it last Sunday. We can't wait to see your new 1911!

    :D

Been on a bit of a buying spree (for me at least) lately.

My M98 Yugo came in just before the crisis started rearing its head here in MD.

I sent in my form to the CMP for a Service Grade Garand the other week (they have it, but have to get through the backlog from mid March first)

And I just won a 1942 Savage Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.1* with intact flaming bomb and U.S. Property marks, and no importation mark. It's in need of some restorative work, but nothing I can't handle.

Nice. I have noticed prior to reading about it how the older 22 Pistols were set up for a 6:00 hold on a 25 yard NRA target (I think that is how it is). So when shooting a small 8" steel gong at 25 yards, I have to aim low w/ my Ruger Single six, Ruger Mark I and the High Standard.

My first HG purchase at age 21 was a GM 1911 and that led to a new 70 series Gold Cup. I love that gun and it got extensively modified for IPSC competition in the early 80s. From a collector's point of view it's a mess but that pistol took me on lots of adventures so I'm OK with it. Was a shooter long before I morphed into a C&R whisperer later in life.

While stuck at home I caught the K31 bug and eventually bought 2. A 1934 and 1953. Paid $480 for each. Not pristine examples but not mistreated. I took a chance on slightly fuzzy gunbroker pictures and won. Both have wonderful bores. And I was able to snag almost 200 rds of brass for real cheap.

Took these two in on a trade yesterday, real happy having a few nice new ones to play with while stuck at home still. Nice correct ‘44 Remington Rand and a ‘44 byf (Mauser) P.38. The P.38 also came with a mint original holster and spare mag.

Pop the slide off the P.38 and look at the lock block and barrel pin, and trigger spring... it looks kinda dipped in that picture.
But you may have hit a really good one, if all the Waffenamts are E/135 instead of E/WaA135.
At the very least it's a "mixed proof" pistol since a BYF44 would normally have all E/WaA135 and I can see the frame is E/135
(typically if that's the case, they all are).
Late P and up thru the Q block had a lot of interesting combos of slide markings and proofs.

Yeah I was actually going to ask you about this one, the finish seems a little dark and shiny for what I’d expect on a 44, but I have very little experience with P.38s. It’s an early q block, all E/135 that I see. I’ll take it down soon and shoot you some pics in an email. I know the locking block is matching and in the white from a quick strip yesterday. Thanks as always for your input!

A $30 C&R license will prove as expensive as being given a $500 gift certificate to the ford dealer., redeemable only on a new car. Lot’s of fun and thanks for showing your acquisitions. May many follow.

-This was my only acquisition while on my month-long layoff during the lockdown. Found a wonderful period dual magazine pouch for the Colt Woodsman. Goes well with my Pre-Woodsman Audley holster. Have no clue who the manufacturer was but very well built, a perfect fit.
