After reading a lot here these past couple of weeks and visiting a few gun shops I begin to realize I've been asleep at the wheel way too long and did not know how bad things have gotten in this state. Now I understand how all of our local idiots have been elected and put into power.

I did not know about the bore locks and that they are mandatory on every handgun purchase. And, one size does NOT fit all (I wonder which MD politician has stock in the manufacturer of these locks). Then I found out today this is ONLY a Maryland issue and no other state mandates this. The common sense that rattles around in my brain cannot fathom this law since it is not needed on shotguns, long barrels, short barrels or if licensed, NFA's. Last time I checked, any and all guns are just as lethal as the other. WTF! Who and how does this crap get passed? If you now have to take a written test to judge your mental rationale for the military shouldn't this be mandatory for politicians? How do we start that as a law? I think this is asinine to force on someone who has no kids and does not have any kids come for a visit.

I feel bad for people who are barely living paycheck to paycheck and live in really bad areas and need a handgun for home protection. This state has now completely priced them out of right of their safety with all of the new extras, licensing, fingerprinting and additional training. I will say everyone needs some sort of training but there are cheaper alternatives other than state sanctioned, expensive classes.

    welcome!

fortunately, the community helps each eachother out when it comes to bore locks. I just mailed my .45 lock to another member. there is a thread for it if you ever run into the issue again. "gun lock exchange" I believe.

I believe the bore lock law was a compromise to having built in locks from the manufacturers which would effectively banned most handgun sales in MD since gun makers would not redesign just for sales in MD.

It was all the reading on here and seeing threads linking to the lock exchange that made me question the dealers. My problem is I am looking at the FN 5.7 which would make the locking device rare and expensive, for which it would never be used. No kids =no use. I don't mind spending the money but spending on something that is never used is inexcusable.

    Where they send me.
Yep, and the people who keep voting for these politicians and obama (banning re-import of military stuff via executive order) just seem to lap it up.

One day, they may want to exercise their right only to find out it's going to cost them $500 or so more (class, fingerprinting, stupid lock, etc) than the person in the state next to them.

    Gotta love the "progressive" movement.

Now, we have to pray the NRA can roll some of this back in the courts which is not ideal.

Yup, I admit I've been somewhat asleep at the wheel. I am glad to say though I still voted against Gansler and O'Malley. I also voted properly in the 90's but was asleep in the early 2000s. When I heard the so called weapons ban was not being renewed I figured things were going good until I heard of SB281. I also listed a thread for info on which politician's are Pro 2A since we start voting in a week but received no replies.

Not to mention the last 6 year's I've been fighting for my life due to an illness so I've had other things on my mind. But now that I'm somewhat up and running again I am paying full attention.

I'm not going anywhere anytime soon! I refuse to be kept down. I'm a stubborn SOB and nothing pisses me off more than someone telling me I have to do something or I'm not allowed to do something. I also take doctors recommendations with a grain of salt.

Ok, I decided to go back to the show today and purchased the 5.7 and lucky for me FN includes a bore lock in the case. Even though I REALLY lucked out I am still fuming over the fact this is a required law on all new handgun purchases for this state.

Remove the handgun statement and replace it with any other object - including rain and your statement pretty much covers why MD is now a total socialist/progressive state. It's only going to get better for the citizens.

Another one of our new taxes from the beginning of the year, which has been pretty much kept quiet, dog food. I'm not sure if it is all pet food but I definitely know they increased the dog food tax. They claimed it was for environmental reasons. I guess that goes along with the flush tax for those that are on well and septic.

I've been trying to squeeze out of the tiny bus windows for years. I just can't get my ass to fit through the frame. Still looking for the back emergency door.

    Welcome to the forums.

Tell everyone you know that may be living under a rock, is uninformed, doesn't vote. Tell them to get up off their duffs, vote and spread the word. Our elected officials are killing us here regulation after regulation, tax after tax. We need to get these politicians making these decisions out of office. Call your elected state officials and let them know how you feel. Find out how and what they voted for and how it effected you and do everything you can to get their ass out of office.

This gun bill should not have happened, too many people think their vote doesn't count. Now we suffer.

    Rant over..... :D
