Blown up S&W Alloy Frame 1911 (PICTURED ADDED)

It was a high usage gun that was firing factory Remington White/ Green box .45ACP ammo.

    IT BLEW UP BAD.

I wont reveal who owned it or who was shooting it but no one was injured. Ill be looking it over tomorrow to tell the owner where I believe the blame is (Ammo or the gun). Im very shocked the gun didnt allow the shooter to get hurt.

Since you seem to be a pretty big fan of S&W, I'm betting the issue is the ammo.

Im an evolving fan of products. If products that were once bad, improve I let people know. If products that were once great go south I do the same. Im not a loyal fan of anyproduct. I just call them like I see them.

Gun products are like sports teams. Some teams are consistently good and have bad spots. Some are always bad and some crappy ones rise from the ashes.

I have seen a lot of QC problems with the Remington White/Green box ammo in 45ACP. On several occasions I have had rounds where the brass appeared to have been torn back from the case mouth on one side by some mechanism. I won't buy it anymore because that kind of thing shouldn't make into the market.

This is the first I've heard of this. I wonder how widespread the problem is? Any other recommendations for cheap bulk target ammo?

As far as ammo goes, I have only seen 3 brands with rolled over case mouths.

    WWB
    Remington White/Green Box
    Fiocchi

WWB is foreign made now and some. 45 rounds arent seated deep enough and cause issues.

What type of frame? Is it the Scandium/Aluminum alloy?

They used to make lacrosse stick shafts out of this stuff. It was very light, but so prone to denting and breakage that I haven't seen a new one since the late 90s.

Alloy. I detest Alloy 1911 framed pistols. Ive seen many allot 1911 frames fail but I have never seen one fail and cause castrophic damage/kb.

I'm still amazed that people make alloy-framed 1911s to roughly the same dimensions as steel-framed ones. JWB made the frame that thick in places for a reason...because it needed to be. :sad20:

(I'm not bashing alloy-framed guns in general, only ones built to steel-framed gun dimensions.)

High usage + Alloy frame = bad idea. From my incredibly poor memory and extensive gun magazine collection, alloy framed 1911s were not meant for five figure round counts, they were to be carried a lot and shot little. This used to be common knowledge back in the 1980s, but it looks like someone wasn't told this.
