Keeping in mind CMP M1 regular sales rifles seem to be priced fairly considering the market. I saw this M1 carbine on the CMP auction; an Inland M1 Carbine going for $1700+. I get that the CMP auction is not a bargain hunting web site and the money goes to a great cause, but what makes this M1 Carbine worth so much?

Or is someone just being generous?

Seems like CMP auctions routinely exceed 20 to 30% over retail, though this one is getting stratospheric.

Yup, two guys/gals chasing the bid. Great for the CMP. Typical example of "I didn't pay too much, just bought early" syndrome. M1 carbines have been on the rise for a long time and it seems to have not slowed much. Outstanding examples have risen significantly and I think it's safe to say that the "a rising tide lifts all boats" condition is in play. Glad I got mine when I did as I've seen worse examples selling for hundreds more in the last 2-3 months.

That price will get one from the Indian River guy at Chantilly show

That guy...I feel like he's the Mitchell's Mausers of the Chantilly show. I wouldn't be surprised if he's remarking weapons. I don't trust sellers who don't post prices on their products.
