LSA was the end all back when I was in! Now they found a cheaper product, Breakfree CLP! And in a few yrs. they'll find another new product. No big! I will go with no one product can Clean, Lube, and Preserve as well as 3 specific products.
Lets face it. For your average trip to the range you could use corn oil with no issues.

I still have a can of LSA and you can see from my signature how old it is.

I just use breakfree LP and clean my guns every once in a while. I use gun cleaners(like wipout por ejemplo) to clean the guns and preservatives like rust prevent to preserve them...I guess I'm weird or something for using products specifically designed for the task at hand.

I only use synthetic motor oil anymore. It's way better.

Looking to switch to a grease for pistol slides soon.

Please share your data on why not to use STP oil additives. Tangible data is important.

    BSIAB

I know one of the pioneers in oil analysis.

He analyzed every oil additive out there, and found that at BEST, they did no harm. NONE did any more than good quality motor oil. Many actually are worse that good quality motor oil.

He called all of the BS In A Bottle. And offered to sell anyone his own REAL BSIAB, collected from REAL bulls.

Do what you want, but according to people who know, none of them are worth the time it took you to read the label.

Show me your tangible data that STP works better.

Hey look the quarterly best lube for a gun argument.

If one looks up the MSDS for majority of gun lubes that are not organic, you will see they are derivatives of synthetic motor oil. Some will add this or subtract that but really they are high priced synthetic motor oil base. Though some are dressed up mineral oil which sucks.

LSA is still used on the MK19 - CLP on the rest.
its partially more a logistics issue of stocking a single item than separate cleaners and lubricants.

 Motor oil is designed to be hygroscopic, basically additives allow it to trap moisture and suspend it. Not a big deal if it is in an engine that will be heated past water's boiling point frequently, and long enough to release the moisture in the form of vapor. It's a bad property as it saturates to form an emulsion, then forms free moisture under the oil film along with acidification and corrosion. Most contain toxic benzene additive compounds and the additive package usually has little resistance to oxidation in the open. Might be an OK lubricant, definitely cheap, but it does have a serious drawback that other types of hydrophobic oils don't. Most gun oils and mil-spec CLP have a lot in common with food-grade light machine oil, high barrier lubrication, high corrosion protection, low volatility, stable across a broad temperature range, goodoxidation protection, and non-toxic.

There ya go with all that dagnab science and reality like you have experience managing fleets or something. ;) My buddy's uncle knew a guy who drove the bus he used to ride to work who used to drink saltwater and olive oil then pissed on his guns. He went through 237,000 rounds without a single malfunction. Then he buried his gun in a creek and it didn't have a spot of rust on it when a sasquatch found it years later. It's true. It's on the internetz.

This is kinda like how to start a flame war on car forums. All someone has to do is ask for the best tires, motor oil, oil filter and wax and the arguments start. Flame on!

    Yeah I can't stand that.

PS-did I mention that Colt AR's are the best, pit bulls are awesome, and historic tags should be scaled up to 30 years?

Maybe I should start using CLP in the pick-em-up truck. How many 4 oz bottles equals 5 quarts?
I'll set the change reminder for 1000 rounds or 3000 miles.

that will be an expensive oil change.
