Need a gunsmith to install a medium Palma barrel on a Remy 700.

Post 2-4 cover it IMO. All will do great work and I’d feel comfortable with any of them. Given a recent lesson though I’d likely choose the one who would return the project on your timeline.

    Thanks much shamrock.

    Happily.

FWIW, Walt prefers email as a starting point as it helps minimize his disruptions during the day. He’s working on a pistol for me and looks like he will deliver it 3 weeks early

I’ve had plenty of work done by Hafer and love his work. Fair price, great job and a super nice guy to deal with

I’ve never personally had work done by Ed but his reputation is spotless as far as I know and I’ve three friends who swear by the rifles he built for them. One was a R700, not sure on the others

Other options are to send it out.

I have used Short Action Customs in Ohio and Long Rifles Inc in SD.

Both do excellent work, with very quick turn around times. For threading/muzzle brake install (one job included Cerakote), about 7 days door to door with FedEx Ground shipping.

Thanks. Wanted to keep it local. Businesses here could always use some help

IMHO always order your barrel, stock, fancy bottom metal, trigger etc and have it onhand before you drop everything off at the gun smith. If a particular stock or barrel manufacture is 8-10 months for your particular item you have the use of your firearm in the meantime.

    Good luck

I talked to Ed and he had a six week lead time and didn't have the barrel profile I wanted in stock. Seemed like a helluva nice guy though.

These are some places online that you can buy the barrel blank you are looking for and they ship to your door in a week or so. Grizzly has some bartleins last I looked(it was a year ago). If you are shooting a unique wildcat with some uncommon freebore/neck size, he might not have have a reamer for it. Most smiths that have been around for a while have lots of reamers.

Agree with Jerry, usually best to order everything you need and ship to your home, some "hot items" might have a much longer than usual delivery/production time line.

    Good luck with your build.
