.22LR Velocities for WWII Trainers

I have a few WWII era training rifles (MAS 45, H&R 65, and Mossberg 146B) and they are real fun to shoot. Both the Mossberg and MAS can shoot point of aim to 100yds with high velocity bulk ammo. The H&R 65 seems to prefer standard velocity to even be able to aim at 50 & 100yds. I have the peep sight almost touching the receiver for CCI standard velocity 22. It is almost uncomfortable to aim with the sight that low. The HV stuff is about 10-12” high at 100yds.
My question:
Is anyone else experiencing this with their trainers? Was 22LR from that day all standard?

Yup. Velocity was usually 1150-1200. You can try subsonic which is 1050 to see if that works for you.

It likes the CCI standard stuff. I just picked up some other stuff rated at around 1070. Hope it does well.

Figured out it’s front sight is shaved down compared to others that I’ve looked at online. Time to search for one.

I have built up a number of front sights using JB weld. I can't recall any that broke off. You can make them black by adding carbon to the mix or just use a black marker after it dries.

This will be a tough part to find. Might try building the old sight back up with silver solder or something **
Before you get too far into it, if it works fine with SV I'd leave it alone and just shoot that

Can try joining machinegunboards forum, they have a few expert M65 collectors there.
You may wind up having to buy a parts gun.
