Sorry if this is a "no brainer" but...

My understanding is that most long guns (shotguns, bolt rifles, historic rifles) can be sold face to face in Maryland without having to go through an FFL. Is that correct?

Then I am also assuming it is NOT legal to sell those same firearms to someone from out of state who is visiting the state. Is that also correct?

Any cross-state line transaction must go through FFL.

Long guns can go through FFL in either state.
Handguns must go through FFL in buyer's state.

No face-to-face sales across state lines.

C$R can ease things if the firearm is old enough or on the list and buyer has FFL03.

There are exceptions when the rifle is C&R and one or both of you doing the transfer is a C&R FFL03 holder, depends on the situation In that case, One of you are the FFL so your statement is still correct.

So...what kind of a dumb question is that? Sorry to be rude but do you think I'm from a Russian troll farm or from the DNC or...

Maybe I'm someone who is not intimately familiar with Maryland law...having moved here recently...who doesn't want to get into trouble and prefers to deal with people that are helpful instead of people who ask stupid questions like "Are you real?"

I just got my C&R FFL last week. The gun that I am selling was not received or logged in through my C&R license. And, wanting to be safe rather than sorry I'm assuming it would still be best either to ship it to his FFL or have him meet me here at an FFL to make the transfer. Yes?

If you have a C&R you can sell a C&R long gun to someone from out of state; you will have to log the sale.

It's not clear whether the gun is C&R-eligible from your posts. Any firearms you may have owned prior to receiving your 03FFL will have to be logged at the time of sale. It's not required to log your previous C&R-eligible firearms unless you dispose of them through a sale while your license is active.

If the long gun in question is not C&R, you can sell it to a MD resident without going thru an FFL. Out of state purchasers will need to go thru an 01FFL.

What Bob is saying is that if your long gun is a C&R, since it is not currently in your bound book, you will need to log it IN as an acquisition from "private collection" and then log it OUT as a disposition to whomever it goes to. No big deal.

The mechanics of the transfer depend on who the buyer is, but your plan to either ship to an FFL or have them meet at a local FFL fits the bill for all cases I think.

This isn't exactly correct. The 03 FFL only applies to Firearms, Curio and Relic. You cannot log non C&R firearms in your bound book as that would be outside of the privileges granted buy the 03FFL.

You sure about that? If they also have a c&r of course, but to a non-licensee from another state? I don't think so.

Bob A is correct. An C&R holder can sell a eligible C&R long gun to a resident of another state as long as it doesn’t go against state law and the transfer occurs at the address of the license.

    You're correct.

So is mvee; I neglected to point out that the sale had to be conducted at the FFL03 location; I assumed it would be the case, from the original posts.

Trust lawyers to complexify the simple; it makes them necessary, of course, to unravel the mess they create with their legislation. Everyone wants job security, I suppose.

My advice is simple- trusting the opinion of those posting on an internet forum when it comes to laws is a questionable path to follow, but it’s up to you. My question was around a number of legal questions you’ve tried to answer here, all of which are easily resolvable through simple basic research even using credible internet legal sources, versus asking on a forum. My advice is to get acquainted with legitimate sources of any legal matter, plain and simple. What anyone says here on a legal matter whether right or wrong can’t be taken at face value without legitimate validation.

All true. And forgive my flying off the handle a bit.

My observation...as proven in the previous responses...is that this website is one of the very best places to start the research.

Lots of other folks have trodden (trod? trodded?) lots of different paths and if they can bring something to the discussion to point me in the right direction...including citing, if possible, credible sources for continued research, then they have saved me a ton of time and possible expense. And for that I am appreciative.

Back now to being annoyed...when someone posts something you think is stupid or repetitive...you should feel free to just pass on by, without comment, rather than challenging the intellect or integrity or ethics of the one posting a reasonable question.

    FWIW.
