At 900 yards, I would have to send it in a brown truck!

At 900 yards the target would need to be as big as a big brown truck.

All kidding aside I am thinking about an M700 .308 as next years purchase.

I've got a 700bdl .3006 I was thinking about having some work done on if I can find the right guy locally....

Hey Dave, if you do go with a .308 in a factory rifle, IMHO, go with one of the "tactical" models (PSS), which seem MUCH more consistent with regard to accuracy that the supposedly equivalent "varmint" models, which can be very very good or very very bad. . . .

Maybe the Gun Connection here can help. http://www.mdshooters.com/showthread.php?t=6352

FWIW, from a factory long action BDL with a wood stock, you can have the action & bolt trued and install a precision chambered high quality barrel and be shooting a 6.5-284, .30-06 or even a .300WinMag into 3/8 moa pretty easily.

The factory trigger is GTG with a little tuning/adjustment and all you really need to do with it then is stock it and put glass on it. Used HS stocks are around, and you can likely score a used 700VS or 700P/PS/PSS for less than $175. If it's in an HS stock already, you're done, and the barrel channel is quite easy to open up to accommodate a heavier taper. You can also go get a much nicer McMillan for $600+, but I don't know if they're THAT much nicer. Manners makes an excellent LR stock, which is a little cheaper than McM and Tom Manners is a great guy. The problem with both is that they must be bedded, sometimes costing another $200 or so, whereas an HS is a drop in. Good glass can be had pretty reasonably if you shop around for a good value in a used Loopy, etc. with target knobs.

I don't have any good pictures of my .308 SPS Tactical but here are some of my .223 SPS Varmint that I love to death. Picture of group is at 100 yards with Black Hills 52gr HP Match and the target speaks to how much I love this rifle lol.

Here's my Savage 93R17HMR not exactly long range, but it's one of my favorites. Its dead on at 100 yards and probably good up to 200.

    Update:

Got bored this weekend and decided to paint the stock:

Here are a few examples of how it shoots:

I flinched really bad on the flier:

This rifle was built primarily with hunting in mind, but I would like to see what it can do at maybe up to 500 yards.

I've put maybe 100 rounds through it and the one time I was seriously shooting for groups, I was able to get three shots that could almost be covered by a quarter at 100 yards.
