One of my co-workers told me that his brother has a Mossberg 500 with a screw in Choke. The Brother claims the Choke Tube "fell" into the chamber and when someone pumped the gun, it jammed the thing in the chamber HARD.

They tried to pry it out and use picks. No success.

They gave the barrel to me today to see if I could get the choke out. Took about 3 mins.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF
    1) Plugged the front of the chamber with a cleaning patch
    2) Melted some Cerrosafe in a ladel with a torch
    3) Poured the melted Cerrosafe into the breach
    4) Let the Cerrosafe cool for 5 mins and harden
    5) Insert 1/2" range rod in the muzzle and gave the hardened Cerrosafe a hard tap.
    6) Out came the Choke Tube
    7) Put the Cerrosafe and Choke into the ladel and melt the Cerrosafe again
    8) Pull the Choke out of the melted Cerrosafe with some pliers
    9) Set Aside Cerrosafe for future reuse

Still not as bad as my brother removing the bluing off a late 50's era MKI Ruger, with a dremel and a 320grit sanding drum.

(He won't live that down anytime soon.)

Now Gun Doc, just how in the hell does somebody wind up with a choke tube in the chamber, AND then proceed to rack a slide on it? Gotta be like the hospital stories you hear. He's got WHAT? Stuck WHERE? Jesus, I can't stop laughing! :lol2::lol2::lol2:

Never mind. Forget I asked. Your fix was a stroke of creative genius. And some questions are probably better left unasked, and forever unresolved.

    "It fell in there"

Similar to the stories of people who come into the ER with a racquetball up their ass. Usually they say something like "I fell on it". Sure you did......

Somebody told him that based on its name, it must be a special "choke round" to use to discretely choke somebody instead of shooting them.

I think it started with an MGA Delegate who came up with that.

He has submitted a proposed bill to ban "choke rounds."

When I was a kid, Brownells used to pack newsletters in with their customers orders. They included little tidbits of info called "Gunsmith Kinks." One of these was using Cerrrosafe to remove ruptured shell cases from surplus rifles. ( this used to happen pretty often due to excessive headspace on some old relics.

That's one of the few things I can remember these days.

I never even heard of that stuff or even would have thought of that. I guess that's why people like me bring things to people like you. Very cool.
